I’m over at boingboing for the week

For some wacky reason I’ve been asked to guest blog over at Boing Boing so I’ll be scarcer than usual here. I’m working on a post about the Gale/EBSCO thing but trying to find the hook that makes it … explicable to a plain old library user. If you have suggestions, or other things that you think would fascinate a Boing Boing audience, feel free to drop them in the comments. And if you happen to live in the Florida Panhandle, I’ll be in Niceville on Friday talking about CMSes.

  1. I’ve found it helpful to explain database content as analogous to cable packages – certain “packages” give us a set of titles, some you are interested in and some you are not. Perhaps the Gale/Ebsco debate could be compared to only being able to get sports channels through Fios/Comcast/insert TV giant here…

  2. Enjoy Niceville! I’ve been there a couple of times for work. They have a great public library.

  3. Awesome!!! You’re a freeeeking superstar now!!! And I knew you when.

  4. Why not share some of the cool blogs that libraries have created.

  5. Re: Gale/EBSCO:

You can only buy eggs at one of the stores in town and, due to nefarious practices in the poultry industry, the eggs are really expensive there?

(I would add something about not liking the arrangement of the store too, but that’s getting personal.)
