Margaret Cho will not be performing at the Unity 2004 event. She was univited because the organizers feared a "potential media firestorm." This sort of overly-cautious self-censorship on the Democratic side -- while the VP can say "fuck yourself" to my state Senator and Schwartzenegger can call Democrats, union members and lawyers "girlie men" -- really reflects badly on even the idea of leadership, much less the notion of having some backbone and standing up for what you believe in.
Dennis Miller can make gay jokes about Senators Kerry and Edwards at a recent Bush rally in Wisconsin to a complete absence of media scrutiny. No one demanded a tape of that event or alleged that his comments as a comedian might reflect poorly on Bush.

I thought HRC was supposed to defend "working for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender rights" not censoring them.

The republicans frame values and no one seems to doubt them. They have no values. I don't care how ANYone lives their life, but to people like Guiliani, Schartzenegger, Bennett, Livingston, Gingrich, Limbaugh and Hyde who have had exponentially more value-related issues than any democrat there is nothing odd about vilifying dems for breathing.
I like bartcop today on the news for republicans.
One thing we know..if the republicans win then the nation has picked phony values and servitude.

Well, Margaret calls for Unity on her website (http://www.margaretcho.net/blog/acallforunity.htm) even after being dissed. I guess we hang together or we will hang separately if Bush actually wins this time.
