I’ve been writing more and travelling more this year in compensation for not doing teeny library work as much. One of my newer gigs has been as a reviewer for Rachel Singer Gordon’s new project The Tech Static, helping librarians do collection development for tech titles. I did a short review of a DVD/manual for people learning Access 2007. There’s already a lot of good content up there. Add it to your feed reader and check the meta category for more background information.

I’m clawing through the fog of jetlag and email backlog. Thank jehu that I have Twitter to help me feel even further behind! If you have more free time than I do, you may want to help out with some surveys.

Rachel Singer Gordon is looking for librarians pursuing nontraditional career paths and has a few questions she’d like you to answer.
A “group of librarians” involved in the 2007 ALA Emerging Leaders program would like you to take a short survey about what new/young librarians would like to see more of at conferences. Jenny implies (and their blog confirms) that the Project L team is behind this, more power to them.

the long awaited speaking survey results!

Rachel Singer Gordon has made two posts out of the speaking survey. One of them is just the results, the other is the comments from respondents. I just got back from speaking at three library events, and was reimbursed differently for all three for various reasons. I was probably also compensated differently from the other people I spoke with, which is a little weird to think about. I hope that this wrap-up helps level the playing field for those who want a bit more information. Nice job Rachel, thanks!
