Library Camp!

I went to library camp in Montr√®al and had a very good time. This was the second library event that I’ve been to recently where I stuck around for the whole thing and I’m glad I did. I even woke up early so that I could see John Fink and Jason Hammond’s talks which were before mine and worth getting up for.

The promo materials said I was going to be “inspirational” so I tried my best. I basically did an anti-pecha-kucha talk with six pictures slides that were each on the screen for about eight minutes each. And I wrote out a talk, with all the words not just my usual “now talk about the digital divide” notes. I was pleased with it, though the informal no-podium nature of the event meant that I still wound up riffing a fair amount and doing weird things like this. Plus it was 100 degrees [37.7 C] but people were nice and stayed awake. The Library Camp event was in the Cyberth√®que in the basement of a McGill building which was an awesome place to have an event. Big tables, lots of computers, working wifi, nearby bathrooms and snack machines, good screens and projectors and AV. Big big pros to Amy Buckland and Amanda Etches-Johnson for creating a terrific event and to everyone else for coming out and participating.

My talk — NOW I WILL INSPIRE YOU — is available in a few formats.

  • The main page where slides are available in various formats (not super helpful)
  • The actual words from the talk itself
  • some live-blogged goodness which I had to make a real effort to not read while I was talking

I am going to Canada tomorrow and would like to see you there

I’ll be giving a talk at the Library Camp pre-conference thingie that the Emerging Technology Interest Group is putting on the day before CLA up in Montreal. If you’ve got $40 and are in the area, I’d suggest stopping by, there are going to be a lot of cool people there. John Fink and Jason Hammond will also be giving talks in the morning.

Why is Josh Neff smiling?

… because he just got back from Library Camp Kansas and had a great time. Or, as Michael Sauers’ shirt says “im in ur STATE UNing ur CONFERENCE” More photos from the libcampks08 tag and a few more blog posts under the libcampks08 tag at Technorati. There’s another Library Camp happening in Ann Arbor Michigan tomorrow which I was sad to just miss by a few days.

Library Camp!

I’m in Connecticut and going to be heading over to Library Camp East tomorrow. I didn’t mention this before because there’s been a lot going on in my life lately and it was sort of a last minute decision. I drove down with Casey and Lichen and I’ll be seeing Michael Golrick later on today. Head on over to his blog and say Happy Birthday to him today.

Library Camp East, 2006 – join me!

Newest on my “list of librarians on IM who I bug a lot” is John Blyberg (I know, I am slow on the uptake) who I haven’t met and in fact had never seen until this past conference. This will all change at Library Camp East, coming in on the tail end of the Virgo Month of Leisure, on Septemebr 25th in Darien Connecticut. It’s an unconference which means that anti-authoritarian — and broke — dorks like me will probably appreciate it. I’m just hoping I can carpool with both Meredith and Casey. Here’s the wiki. sign up and I’ll see you there.
