According to Michigan Public Libraries Data Digest 2007 Edition --> http://www.michigan.gov/documents/hal/lm_DataDigest_2007_236559_7.pdf <-- 92% of Michigan's public libraries had automated systems in 2006, and every public library in the state offered Internet access. Michigan has 379 main libraries, 280 branch libraries and 18 bookmobiles providing public library service.

73 libraries serve a population of 0–3,999
76 libraries serve a population of 4,000-6,999
68 libraries serve a population of 7,000-11,999
78 libraries serve a population of 12,000-25,999
42 libraries serve a population of 26,000-49,999
42 libraries serve a population of 50,000 and over

In general, it looks like Michigan is doing a pretty good job of supporting libraries. Business, not so good. But libraries... well, we all need somewhere to go when there's nothing else happening.

Less than half of the Vermont public libraries have an automated catalog? In 2008? Eeks. Hmm, I wonder what the stats are for Michigan. I will look and send you a note.
